Today, 21 September, is International Day of Peace. Here in Northern Ireland, it’s also a time redolent with the fear and hope that the Haass process brings.
The leaders of the four main denominations – no longer an all-boys’ club, that august grouping! – have come together to create the Hope and History Statement. Named from the most-quoted line from the recently-lost Seamus Heaney’s “The Cure at Troy”, it is a declaration, a call for forgiveness, and a dedication. I’ve signed, and I’d love you to as well.
